Recommendations needed for using VNC
i've been testing out couple of vnc hosts/clients amongst 2 workstations, means of being able control older (read: slower , lonely) workstation newer workstation various , sundry tasks. i'm not trying edit across network, i'd able manage files, set encodes, , other lo-fi tasks.
currently, computers networked using router part of dsl modem use. unfortunately, 10/100 router, , it's pretty slow, both in file copying terms , in general operation. open-ended guess if bumped gige switch/router, i'd able perform these actions little more fluidly--right now, there significant lag in operation , redraw in vnc client window.
i've tested out ultravnc , tightvnc. ultravnc bit "bubblier" hasn't been updated in awhile , lacks cool feature tightvnc has: file transfer window. it's not slick drag-'n'-dropping client computer host computer, it's sort of java ftp window lets navigate drives on both machines , copy files betwixt them. reason, tightvnc better (the free price tag helps).
what i'm wondering if there better/faster method of doing this, or if there other suggestions vnc software use? know windows has built-in vnc (remote desktop, believe), i've disabled since it's otherwise running in background. can control other vnc apps little bit more tightly, they're not quite "integrated" rd be, imagine. there other vnc packages should looking at, or have suggestions how best outfit setup? i'm looking @ getting basic netgear gige switch increase connection speed between systems, i'm open other suggestions.
thanks in advance.
