Lightroom Upgrade at a client - sucess? - keyword problem deal breaker

just small report, on how upgrading client's lr 2 catalog went.

 

background: client professional photographer specialized on garden photography. customers gardening , lifestyle magazines publish photos regularly illustrations various articles. has professional canon eos 1ds mk iii equipment , shoots exclusively raw. in shoot around 300 1000 images shot. lightroom catalog has around 20,000 images currently.

 

in lightroom uses dam , basic development features, images delivered either raw of jpeg images clients. keywording important. has extensive hierarchical list of plants of them multiword keywords spaces, , lots of other keywords indicating if images sent clients , other stuff.

 

the upgrade went well. exported catalog new intermediate catalog without previews, installed lr3 , imported intermediate catalog lr3 generating new previews scratch. hardware modest, , functional tests (especially switching images in develop, spot tool, , adjustment brushes) revealed performs enough.

 

then asked me have benefits using new version. , told whole benefit story, can read everywhere.

 

- new process version, better details , noise reduction. asked can see it? hmm, switched 1:1 view changing process versions, not see on canon 1ds mk iii files. noisier files, hard tell, has changed. 4:1 view tiny changes visible. impact on business? near nothing not print large. differences hardly seen in magazine prints.

 

- lens corrections , perspective control: not matter in garden photography, see some occasional usefullness.

 

- publish services: no real need it

 

- print packages: nope

 

- slightshow improvements: no use it

 

- performance improvements: nothing visible

 

- effects: superfluous

 

- new import dialog: @ first glance hindereance, has used it

 

then asked: did correct keyword handling, when entering keywords witrh spaces? (you know nasty bug, keyword completion broken @ keywords spaces). checked (i knew wasn't fixed), , of course heavily disappointed. thus, after 2 years of development nothing new her, keyword bug not fixed? of course said, should tell her, when keyword completion works, then , then consider upgrade.

 

so, despite bells , whistles new version, doubt many photographers benefits overwhelming in real world. pitty adobe continues neglect dam features (some fresh ideas client management great), existing features aren't consequently implemented (esp. possibilities query catalog, , keywording), , existing bugs ignored , not fixed.

 

so, please adobe, keyword completion fixed keywords spaces !!! professionals need. catalog without reliable dam features, renders catalog concept great extend useless. please listen!

 

disclaimer: not professional me situation not same. report experience had, photgrapher, needs proper asset management. recommended lightroom because of overall package (she moved cumulus), feel little obliged in issue. in case, user of modest lumix g camera system, consider iq benefits more signifcant. don't know, if general observation.

lr 3.2 works fine me.

 

for example:

 

russia, st petersburg, hermitage

 

they show 3 separate key words.

 

problems occur when using quotes unnecessary

 

“russia” ; “st petersburg” ; “the hermitage”
