5.02 update, missing codecs, "Cannot Open Project": SOLVED (for me)

mac cs 5.02, os 10.6.4

 

problem:

 

after applying 5.02 update fix aiff sync problem (a 'known problem' wasn't listed under "known problems" doc until late), none of cs5 projects open, suggesting couldn't find appropriate codec. appears although serial still valid , activated, somehow reduced options trial version, no mpeg/avchd support. when went create new project, list of sequence options short- lots of stuff missing. (don't me started on crippled trial versions don't allow trial software...)

 

i looked @ of solutions suggested here, involved uninstalling entire suite , running script cleaners , disk repair , reinstalling- in short, many hours of work. here's short cut worked me, ymmv.

 

solution (for me @ least):

 

* download 5.02 manual updater.

* uninstall premiere running alias in premiere folder called "uninstall premiere".

* don't run script cleaners. stuck in original install dvd, made sure selected premiere , installed.

* don't open premiere. instead, run manual updater.

* open premiere. @ point open earlier cs5 projects , my

 

hope:

 

that saves angst , time. others don't have put endless hours of adobe 'support' - 5 days told "reinstall software/reinstall system/buy new computer/try film splicer"). next upgrade of premiere have nifty feature of picture , audio sync right out of gates, instead of requiring patch nukes other aspects of software...

whups. last bullet point supposed finish "all sequence codec options restored."
