Broadcom BCM70012 slow with Flash 10.1 Video
i have hp mini 5102 netbook, standard atom n450 cpu , gma 3150 graphics. obviously, such netbook can't handle flash video (especially not hd video). however, understanding broadcom crystalhd bcm70012 crystalhd handles h.264 offload , should noticeably improve situation. installed 1 in netbook.
after testing, can confirm crystalhd latest 3.5.0 drivers working in situations. specifically, able watch 1080p x264 ~10mbps video in media player classic home cinema caused system choke. cpu usage video 100% video , audio stutters, , cpu utilization down ~30%. so, chip working. on flash 10.1 video....
i've tried youtube , hulu, , while appears cpu utilization lower, it's still near 90% in fullscreen mode , video dropping frames , running slowly. youtube hd @ 1080p definitley out, , 720p fails work right in fullscreen mode. in window (so resolution of video downsized maybe 360p), can watch 720p feeds, fullscreen playback regular youtube videos struggle. same goes hulu; 360p works okay in window, , slows down fullscreen. 480p sluggish in window, , drops 15fps (dropping half frames) fullscreen.
if uncheck gpu acceleration option, cpu usage goes higher , frame rates worse, i've seen discussed elsewhere suggests youtube hd playback crystalhd should "smooth". help? suggestions on might missing? i've tried both firefox 3.6.8 , ie8 flash 10,1,82,76.
