Saving an image without background -- yes again!

i'm trying save image without background can use in web design. here's procedure i'm going through:

 

1) create transparent background

 

2) create shape

 

 

3) save png (and i've tried save web)

 

 

 

however still white background.

 

its seems in last picture background transparent there no separation between shape , background.

 

 

i'm sure i'm making trivial mistake...but can't seem work out!

save file gif supports transparency.

 

also png has drawbacks browsers before ie7 , ie6 still used.
