work I've done in cs5 disappears in cs4

i'm grad student , switch , forth between cs4 on macbook pro , cs5 on school computers. problems:

 

1) if start file in cs4 go school , work on in cs5, cs5 work not visible in cs4. never happened (but intact if open file in cs5).

 

2) if start file in cs5, can't open in cs4.

 

3) can't find dialog box save cs5 file in legacy format. option provided 'adobe illustrator file'.

 

is adobe trying force me upgrade?

you're not looking hard enough. in past, saving legacy versions part of normal file --> save as..., there's no problem here. of course artwork using features did not exist in cs4 either flattened or disappear entirely when saving down cs5, expected, don't use features perspective grid, transparency in gradient meshes etc. ...
