Elements 5.0 - delayed response to commands, reinstall?

i working pse 5.0 (no cash upgrades these days) , wondering if may have uninstall & reinstall software solve problem. please tell me think:

when executing command result doesn't show until either click offscreen or go next command. example, select element , when try deselect selection line continues show until have moved on next command. if try delete have click offscreen (or click on tool) see selection deleted. in cases it's nuisance in others can royal pain resulting in having take steps or work in "hit or miss" fashion. there known way resolve or have reinstall program?
