Thread: Help writing to file system

hi - i'm new ubuntu , linux (just installed yesterday)
i've been trying change background of login screen detailed here

http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-do-you...ucid-lynx.html

tried cut , paste photo backgrounds folder, didn't work (the paste option greyed out), , tried save directly folder , got error "cant saved because cannot change contents of folder. "

how unlock file system can write/create folders there?

whats folder , using file browser/manager?
could...
code:
gksu nautilus
either terminal or alt+f2.
pretty read/write/execute access everything...

but, warned, while have nautilus session open, have "root" access everything, not go playing around in unfamiliar places unfamiliar files... regular users denied access of filesystem reason.
