Reader will not install - no error messages

current problem (full explanation @ end), adobe reader not on computer (win 7 ultimate).  downloaded adobe's web site.  went through it's installation process seemingly , when bar reached it's fullest , read 100% installation box dropped off screen , nothing else happened.  ar not listed when choosing "open with" option when right clicking pdf file.  looking in control panel/programs , features not listed installed program.  i've retried installation multiple times multiple browsers (per adobe's suggestion).  please!

 

what got me point:  couple of weeks ago had unrelated problem , had go previous restore point.  worked fine except started having problems ar.  program not start.  got error message "acrobat failed load it's core dll".  tried reinstalling no improvement.  thought perhaps uninstalling ar , doing fresh install might trick.  uninstall went fine can't reinstall.  again, appeared reinstall okay no error messages program not there.  suggestions please.
