Quick PCI-e Question

i've been toying idea of keeping dual quad core rig until next generation of processors , ram come out. have 1200w ps, gtx480, , 2 new 1tb hds add 2 x 2tb raid o(not in same raid 0 setup, of course!) . know big advantage 980x setup ddr3. of course dual quadcores, have ddr2. anyway, concern keeping current rig pci-e slots have on tyan server board 2 (2) pci express x16 slots (x16 gen2 signal mch). take slower current  pcie 2.0 x16 standard. appreciate feedback whether might hamper mpe performance of gtx480 if stay current setup. way, haven't installed cs5 or gtx480 yet or 1tb hds yet, i'm not totally convinced 3k build 980 rig bad idea... main editing workflow right :30 commercials, hdv footage 1-12 layers of video tracks, text layers or 1 ae comp. hoping upgrade avchd-intra day...

the ram performance hit setup when compared i7 configuration. comes down editing , deadlines whether it's need upgrade now. adding not as i7 setup. ram central communication hub goes through. performance increase alone ram bandwidth on i7 several times faster ddr2 system.
