Thread: help with harddisk alignment
he when im trying install ubuntu 10.04 64bit on laptop comes error , being linux newbie im not sure on what says
partition /dev/sda1 assigned / starts @ offset of 3072 bytes minimum alignment disk, may lead poor performance
since formatting partition, should correct problem realigning partition, difficult change later. this, go main partitioning menu, delete partition, , recreate in same position same settings. cause partition start @ point best suited disk
yeah thats says im not sure on how fix thank![]()
see this article wrote ibm developerworks information on issues involved. article focuses on western digital "advanced format" , similar drives, there similar issues raid arrays, noted in "aligning raid partitions" sidebar.
don't know offhand sort of checks ubuntu 10.04 installer does, , haven't said type of hard disk you've got, don't know whether warning reasonable or false alarm. won't hurt re-create partition warning suggests, though. know 10.04 installer aligns partitions on 1mb (2048-sector) boundaries default, in order optimize performance on wide variety of modern hardware possible.
