Thread: MBR seems to have vanished, grub gone. Help!

i had gotten dual boot work yesterday (had tried both oss , both worked). went ubuntu install apps. when done, tried load windows again , told me there problem needed fixed recovery disk. put in, fixed problem , windows started. did routine windows updates , mbr seems gone. message (no grub shows anymore!):

no module name found
aborted. press key exit.

when press key get:
press key boot cd or dvd

if don't press key get:

press key boot cd or dvd.....no module name found
aborted. press key exit.

, have restart holding off 5 secs. there way restore grub ubuntu live installation disk? work?

please help!

boot live cd , give

code:

sudo grub-install /dev/sda  sudo update-grub

this reinstall grub on mbr of first hdd. post if doesn't solve problem.
ps: always, imp data when playing things grub!
