Do i need fms and how easy is live streaming for users?

hi everyone,

 

i investigating requirements new project , wanted ask few questions fms if you'd kind. site i'm building (amongst other things) stream video has been uploaded (predominantly site admin, potentially users) , need solution this. additionally (ideally) site live broadcasts every , users can watch. result questions are:

 

- presumably need add encoding software onto site convert various file formats flv fms can play them (as doesn't include conversion functionality)?

 

- using relatively powerful dedicated server, suggested install fms on totally different server or can run on main server (as long aren't serving ridiculous amounts of video simultaneously).

 

-am right in saying if use fms won't work on iphone or ipad because of lack of flash support? true if use h.264 videos rather flvs? understanding h264s won't work because player flash , hence can't read player, despite bein able read video format. there way round this?

 

-can fms used allow users record straight off webcam correct format future (not live) streaming (like webcam feature on youtube) or have done via flash media encoder , recorded?

 

- right in thinking stream live video have use flash media encoder , connect fms? easy setup media encoder point specfiic fms (ie feasible use solution senior members stream or setup of fme quite complicated)? there anyway build website can broadcast via browser , webcam , have transcode via fms?

there few options here. can deploy own encoding application server (can expensive depending on volume), or can provide users desktop application encoding. don't know of browser based encoding solutions (on2 used offer one, project scrapped when google bought them out)

assuming overall demands within limitations of hardware , network interface capacity, there's no reason why can't run fms on same server.

correct. it's not video codecs, it's transport. currently, there no support rtmp protocol ios devices. fms4 offers http streaming, believe it's wrong flavor of http streaming ios.

yes, you'll need rtmp client supports webcam , mic devices, , supports publishing data on stream fms (flashplayer this, , java capable of well). concept same live streaming, in use case, wouldn't have subsribers connected stream.

fmle isn't option, it's free option h.264 or vp6 video, , learning curve isn't steep (so yeah... little coaching , practice, non-technical users can handle it). not possible "build" fmle website... it's desktop application, , eula prevents third party distribution.

 

the flashplayer capable of publishing live fms, video code sorenson spark (h.263), , video quality isn't good. upside flash based encoder application can embedded website.
