Installation on Windows Server with remote MySQL db - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support

i'm attempting install on windows server. it's shared server, i'm bit blind. support lacking. database mysql database not local , on special port.

when try install 500 internal server error.

i set host name mysql.xxxxx.net:7306

the other fields, username, password, , database name set correctly. i've connected database using these parameters elsewhere. i'm assuming logon has correct permissions. have been able select, update, create, , drop using mysql administrator.

when click next (in installation) fails , sends me error.

i've tried restore database joomla site's data , remove installation folder , create configuration.php file. when load site, same error.

i'm thinking has database connection, don't have access error logs.

any thoughts? (besides going apache)
