Cap 4: Text Entry Box ceases to accept data/won't advance to next slide

i'm using captivate 4 on windows xp platform. have files text entry boxes last characters set shortcuts validation. tebs work in compiled files, , not, in different ways:

 

• for 1 teb, can enter first 4 characters of 5 character entry. type more , nothing appears. have click forward button advance next slide. (i've checked width , it's large enough display full entry.)

 

• for other tebs, can enter characters, file not advance next slide. sits there. alternatively, if pound key on keyboard last character, teb may accept , advance next slide. or, if backspace , re-enter last character, teb may accept , advance.

 

sometimes these tebs work, don't. seems random, no pattern. suspecting corrupt, i've deleted , recreated these tebs, no change in behavior. i've copied working tebs slides , stop working. i've copied working tebs new slides in files, , stop working. next step recreate entire files (!).

 

has else encountered these situations/have solution?
