Moved sight to new server and running into problems - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support

these steps have taken move current joomla sight new joomla sight using godaddy host.

1. dump original joomla mysql database

* go web hosting control panel , locate mysql database joomla! installation using
* there should link phpmyadmin take database administration
* once in phpmyadmin select joomla! database , open of tables displayed
* tables displayed press button labeled export (located on topmost horizontal menu)
* in 'export' selection box select of tables (hold shift key select multiple items in list] - not mess of settings , checkboxes, leave is
* go bottom of page , hit 'go' button - bring database's code in sql language - dump
* copy , paste contents of 'dump' notepad or minimize browser window, since need copy , paste dump new database.


2. install joomla! on new server

* simply...install joomla! on new server
* involves creating new database , database username - don't worry names, choose like
* choose not install sample data -- don't need data right? cause have own, old, data...right?


3. import old database dump new database

* go control panel new web site
* locate mysql database new joomla! installation using , go phpmyadmin page database
* select new database , make sure there nothing in database - if there in database see listing of tables inside database appear on page (you have select of them , choose drop drop down selection list) - know database empty when no tables show on database's phpmyadmin page.
* click on button labeled 'sql' on topmost horizontal navigation bar - bring empty text box labeled "run sql query/queries on database"
* copy , paste original database dump text box (this content pasted notepad or left in minimized browser window)
* finally, hit 'go' button - see content been added database , huge list of tables appear in database structure


4. completing move...

* have 'overwrite' of essential joomla! folders site on new site folders old site - add of stuff you've customized components & modules you've installed, templates , files you've edited, etc...
* these essential folders copy on (and overwrite)

components
editor
help
images
includes
language
mambots
media
modules
templates

i did not finish step 4 did not know how accomplish this-

i not able access in room of new sight except articles. wanting make new sight identical old 1 not know else need do.

not difficult - ftp client , download entire site old one, files , folders, upload of new site. give modules , added, plus formatting changes made.

you need make sure same template or templates loaded in new site. download/upload should take care of that, you'll want go in end , make sure.
