Thread: Probably a permission problem...

hello,

right place put in... trying hard repair ubuntu installation, since kind of... unstable in past few weeks. suspect general permission/user/group problem since affects several, seemingly not related areas.

firstly, fails load alsa sound drivers. trying restart them in command prompt says "...no permission open /dev/snd/seq.." or similar. sound works, @ point (which random) stop working.

secondly, when sound fails, computer refuses shut down or restart. upon using these commands, ubuntu logs out. tried check kernel log, says nothing relevant problem (or fail reading it).

finally, when try opening "users , groups" panel in system->administration, not prompt me password, , buttons in panel don't work (probably because dont have permission).

, 1 more thing - can't mount other hd-partitions in places-menu - says "no permission" or similar. however, can sudo-mount them in console. formerly used mount them "places" , have not change permissions...

guys have ideas problem might be?

have same problem lucid after updating last night, rebooted, cannot mount clicking other drives used prior reboot says unable mount c (or d) not authorized. go user manager , can't change of settings or add user. reinstalled time after started last week. must bug. ideas? have windows 7 installed on different partition. can't click , mount external hard drive. cannot restart or shutdown, returns initial log in page. thank you.
