since partition of windows7 (c: ) wubi installed small, decided reinstall wubi larger partition (e: ), keeping old root.disk. sadly when replaced root.disk ubuntu cannot boot, loader says there no root.disk file, although it's there...
guess there kind of checksum virtual disk toward loader poiting... how can have old ubuntu installation back?? still have old root.disk.

the grub menu in old root.disk referring c: partition. when see menu, hit 'e' on first entry , change references. you'll need know partition e: drive references.
e.g. assuming root.disk installed on /dev/sda3 before, , if e: /dev/sda4, change (hd0,3) (hd0,4) , /dev/sda3 /dev/sda4. delete line says 'search -floppy etc.' ctrl+x boot.
once booted run "sudo update-grub" correct.
i'm little confused how decision migrate ended becoming reinstall of wubi - either way, should work fine. don't rid of backup root.disk.

did said, , boot old root.disk, did grub update, rebooting again in ubuntu still unbootable. , if edit grub hitting e key see still there hd0,3 , sda3... it's didn't store changes...
i suspect override booting different root.disk. boot ubuntu (whichever or live cd) , run bootinfoscript , post results here.
