Help: Can't "turn off" transparency/<100% tinting

i don't know what's going on, rectangles, lines , edges of boxes transparent or less 100% tinted though tinting on swatches , color shows 100%.  use rectangle in "paper" color block out lines of other objects or block out master objects on 1 particular page, etc.  it's not working bleeding through.  furthermore, can't solid color.  if want solid brown line, it's not working.  looks 60% tinted line (if that).  did mess up?

i may have found solution, don't know why.  found option said "clear transparencies" under "object, effects, transparency," did affect selected object or objects in document?  also, what's going on in process , how did select in first place?
