A multiply effect on top of a gradient effect is not completely transparant
place 2 images on top of eachother [step 1 ]. select image below , use object > effects > gradient bottom fades out white (paper) [step 2]. set image on top multiply [step 3].
you expect white background transparant ain't. there's still ghost glow how come?
i wouldn't trust indesign's view on this.
export pdf , examine close acrobat. use separations preview inspect each color channel on own, ought have each little color difference stick out sore thumbs.
