Thread: No sound - Alsa blank window - Lucid 2.6.34 kernel

hello,

updated kernel fix nvidia video problem. have problem of no sound. think may unrelated upgrade of kernel because or of symptoms present, or upgrade may have complicated things more. recent symptom in conjunction problem "restart" , "shutdown" panel dropdown not work -- log out. may or may not related @ all.

saw thread upgrading alsa, seems indicate later 2.6.32 kernel not supported (????): http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1046137

here /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf. last line, "options snd-hda-intel model=basic" suggestions found in other threads.

additional background info:

sound has been working fine until today. problem started after freeze believe caused clash between 2.6.32 kernel , nvidia graphics drivers. have been have daily random freezes long time, today after rebooting freeze, there strange problems sound (alsmixer window blank, no volume control under speaker icon in task panel, , "restart" , "shutdown" task panel not working [just logging out instead, apparently]).

in processing of attempting fix problems, upgraded kernel 2.6.34, re-installed nvidia drivers. not sure if fix "freeze" problem (did base on here: http://my.opera.com/linuxonlinehelp/...-hang-randomly ) encouraging, many glitchy graphics behaviors during boot , shutdown have gone away.

sound problem still remains. "restart" & "shutdown" problem remains, thread sound problem. mention restart/shutdown in case related.

think in last "freeze" got corrupted, not sure.
