so - motherboard died friday, , replaced brand new asus board has intel 4500 graphics chipset.

now, when boot; see on monitor it's "out of range" message.

can ssh box fine; i'd x , running.

there easy way force ubuntu regenerate of necessary config files.

hope helps, whenever there problem xorg-xserver display driver. have hold down shift while computer booting, before loads, when bios display screen comes up, hold down shift , dont let go until have menu can select kernel want. want select kernel-xx.xx.xx.xx-recoverymode. menu come then, , can reconfigure graphics, click restore default graphics, click okay , reboot , let load normally, should fix problem. hope helps.
