Mac - PDFs won't open in Safari
my employer uses system uses online pdf forms. it's not working on system. running macos 10.6.4, safari 5.0.1 (6533.17.8), , adobe reader 9.3.4. have removed adobe reader app, including plugin in /library/internet plug-ins, , re-installed reader. when click on pdf in browser, downloads, , not open in browser. how can resolved?
in snow leopard, safari 64-bit application. adobe hasn't updated plugin run in 64-bit mode; that's why it's not loading in safari.
but can force safari run in 32-mode, , adobe plugin works expected.
here's how:
to this,
- in finder go applications folder, select safari , file->get info
- check 'open in 32-bit mode' in general pane of dialog, close "safari info" window.
- relaunch safari
now acrobat plugin work expected.
there 1 downside this: when running in 64-bit mode, if buggy plugin (like flash) crashes, safari keeps running. in 32-bit mode, if buggy plugin causes crash, safari crash.
the real fix adobe update plugin run in 64-bit mode, since snow leopard has been out on year already!
