Thread: installing wvdial without internet connection
i hoping moderator able open attached pdf file me , paste message because not able to-working broken equipment may shut down second...
have ubuntu 10.04 , need connect modem wvdial, on iso file not installed. pdf shows instructions how offline using synaptic , stuck on last step. instructions thread , there bug report, known issue. want connect huwaei ec325. had going in 8.10, need wvdial.
there may wrong synaptic package manager...please open file , print me message...also move different forum if better here.

trying connect huwaei ec325 modem wvdial did in 8.10 , have got ready no wvdial...i tried think wont work unless online...right?

tried follow these directions installing while offline thread:
update ubuntu 10.04
although wvdial , dependencies included cd of 10.04 not installed default!

not need download them, use .iso or livecd or liveusb following procedure below:
1. right click ubuntu-10.04-desktop-i386.iso , 'open archive mounter'
(or mount livecd/liveusb)
2. right click on icon created (from 1) 'browse folder'
3. create folder on desktop (ex. named 'wvdial')
4. copy folder 4 .deb files exist .iso/livecd/liveusb
5. use system > administration > synaptic package manager
, menu file > add downloaded packages > double click desktop , folder
created @ point #3, click open, follow instructions install
here got stuck-when click on open goes ground zero...page disappears
options 'add, cancel, open'________________________
no need read on if see doing wrong , can me out...but suspect there mabe wrong synaptic manager because not list packages other installed , if click on reload gives me long list of 'failed fetch'...but maybe because not online?
found synaptic problem in files:
under rare circumstances actual installation or removal of package can fail. a
consequence other marked changes canceled, too.
synaptic package manager requires clear environment no half installed packages to
perform additional changes. @ moment there no way continue canceled installations
within synaptic package manager.
fix situation type following command in terminal, press return: apt-get install -f
apt-get install -f
here happened when tried fix:
root@salima-desktop:~# apt-get install -f
reading package lists... done
building dependency tree
reading state information... done
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 remove , 0 not upgraded.
root@salima-desktop:~#
synaptic still not work when following above instructions
..i have seen threads need modeswitch , modem manager believe not have nay not need.
try link download .deb package of wvdial:
http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/ma...+nmu2_i386.deb
if downloads successfully, copy desired machine , try installing manually.
(although isn't recommended method)

download & copy them desktop, double-click install. install top 1 first, next,...... 6th. install suggested package (wvdial+nmu2) in last (if required).
however, run commandline (open terminal, type wvdial, press 'enter').
if doesn't help, please provide description how used dial earlier, how programs interface, details had feed in etc.

how modem looks like? :
