Need script for leading zeros in date

i'm new adobe scripting , im needing little scripting date. found work if needed date autopopulate every time right i'm fine user manually typing in. format mm/dd/yyyy , if type in m/d/yyyy automatically add leading zeros when tab out of field. problem have 3 different fields set date. first field mm, second field dd , third yyyy. have put in script in month , day field add leading zeros , nothing far i've tried has worked. i'd rather automatically change have error message go off if enter format wrong. also, long explanation don't want 1 date field, need divided this. know of script work? help!

do need actual field value change (e.g., "3" -> "03"), or display leading 0 if underlying field value single digit?

 

have considered setting combo-box drop-down list of days, months, , maybe years?
