Thread: Remove package in synaptic?

i downloaded year ago non-ubuntu package fldigi ham radio. installed it, unable recognise soundcard - problems related driver? in case, drivers working, not able older version of fldigi work. unistalled apt-get remove --purge. downloaded new version. every time install new version, old 1 gets installed. noticed synaptic has old version. want rid of (possibly rename) version new 1 can installed.

presently using 8.10, willing update 9.04 (or newer) if help.

recommend?

ubuntu 8.10 isn't supported anymore (it isn't lts), yes, think upgrading help. have ubuntu 10.04 , fldigi version 3.12.5-1, version need?

if update, don't update 9.04, in 2 months, won't supported either. please update 10.04, it's lts edition, have 3 years support.
