Thread: Gimp brush lag

hi everyone.

have problem. i'm digital artist , regular gimp user. run ubuntu 10.04 , use wacom intuos4 tablet paint. there's annoyance that's been bugging me while , destroying nerves.

while using larger brush (radius 20 more large enough happen), brush starts lag behind cursor. can take few seconds brush catch after finish stroke. needless say, annoying , makes way harder paint. don't see i'm painting because brush outline far behind mouse cursor.

workaround use smaller brushes, means paintings smaller, can't make wallpapers nor prints due small size , mistakes become more visible. also, painting details becomes pixel art...

computer has 64-bit quad core amd processor , ati radeon graphics card accompanied 4gb of ram. believe should able run gimp without lagging this.

now, i've tried install ati proprietary drivers, made things worse. disabling compiz didn't work either. not increasing tile cache size 3000mb , allowing gimp use 4 processors did performance.

ran out of ideas. painting hard , frustrating , i'm starting tired of it. can help..?

in gimp's preferences, go image window, play options in mouse pointers. not drawing brush shape, , using simple cursor can issue, little bit. i've never gotten brush control point of mypaint in gimp, may make bit better.
