How to select the white scanner background

i have following image (this small jpeg version). need white background lid of scanner transparent, can't figure out how select without getting fine detail in rice paper edge lost. tired rescanning against black background, unfortunately, because rice paper thin, can see color place behind through paper itself.

the scan seems bad, lines in background problem in opinion.

 

the best starting point seems b-channel rgb-file or b-channel of l*a*b-copy increased saturation.

 

but maybe easiest create custom brush-tip, add randomized shape dynamics , paint edge.
