Thread: No write permissions on the install directory

i'm pretty new linux know way around. i've gotten google earth downloaded , trying install it. fine until try install /usr/local (or somewhere in there). google earth setup keeps telling me not have write permissions on directory.

question: how change write permissions folder? or should install program somewhere else? last program installed (xmind) installed /usr/local.

user (administrator).

help.

ps. i'm using lucid lynx 10.04.1

also, installed default (/home/me/googleearth) , when try launch it says "untrusted application launcher"

ubuntu provide way run installation tasks root (administrator,) should investigate google support site first. luck, , hope enjoy google earth.
