Problems exporting

i'm relatively inexperienced fw hope makes sense in translation. have png file of 2-column web page layout consisting of gray border around each , white background. when export is, slices export supposed several jpg files. have been trying make right (main content) column transparent can have a grayed-out background image show through underneath. have been doing selecting column, changing canvas transparent, , in optimize panel select gif | adaptive | alpha transparency. proceed export , indicate exporting .gif format, see no gif images in main images folder. still jpg images, although column files have "_s1" extension on end. when manually change reference of jpg files in style sheet .gif, image shows through right column border images entirely gone. procedure worked before when using fw8. don't know if i'm missing new exporting procedure since upgrading cs5, or entirely different. thoughts mystery appreciated.

looks there few issues here. lot more helpful shared png file well.

 

 

1)alpha transaprency:  best option issue switch either png 8 or png 32. make sure area sliced , optimization set format mentioned. make sure no matte color chosen either.
