Problem with Scratch Disk - CS4 - Mac

under project settings, scratch disks, have set folder on external drive, , shows me each item there 1tb of space available.  attempting capture panasonic camera.   start capturing, shows me have 27.2mb of space available!  doesn't make sense @ all, , not enough space capture half-hour of footage; capture keeps dropping frames , capture 10 min of film.

 

i don't understand program.  every time capture video seems take unbelievably huge amount of space on internal hard-drive.  have deleted can find delete on internal drive, , deleted trash well, , show have 15 gigs available internally, premiere can't seem find enough space. 

 

why, when i'm giving 1 terabyte of space use, tell me have 27mb of space available??  should have taken me half hour capture (i did 1 earlier fine, seems have taken last bit of space available) , instead have wasted past 4 hours trying figure out.

 

please help!!!

what system report amount of available free space on hdd? not know utility in mac, 1 windows explorer (or computer) on pc.

 

in edit>preferences, have multiple scratch disk locations. set folder on external?

 

also, cs4 , cs5 write files c:\, aside capture , other scratch disk locations.
