Thread: EEEBuntu Update Help

so im brand new ubuntu , lost messing around quite fun.

im used mac , windows anyway

picked asus eee pc netbook cheap decided load eeebuntu standard on through usb drive , working great "actually posting netbook now"

heres problemo, when go update 9.04 error message saying...
"this script detected following installed services must stopped before upgrade: gdm"

im lost on means?

gdm gnome display manager. had nvidia driver install on debian. there may better ways other users provide did.

first drop terminal ctrl+alt+f1 , log in

do:

code:

sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop

you can do:

code:

sudo apt-get update

and

code:

sudo apt-get upgrade

to update system

restart gdm with:

code:

sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start

finally ctrl+alt+f7 bring graphical interface
