Unable to "unlock" locked layers

there thread @ http://forums.adobe.com/thread/493752, has been closed because claims question has been answered. not answered, , useless because originator unfortunately used wrong terminology in question - using term "merged" instead of "locked" - , gave when answers unusable instead of clarifying issue. there nothing whatsoever in files addressing unlocking locked layer.

 

just you'll know right start, not background layers, please not respond here telling me must double-click , rename background layer unlock it.

 

i started working company product database manager shopping cart. previous graphics person locked layers in psd when completed them. want use 3 or 4 layers of psds in separate animated banner, , it's impossible. yes, can copy/paste image layer new image, that's inefficient workaround. want unlock , work layers can move them around , place them want. want know how unlock layers locked before worked file, , need adjusting.

 

i'm running photoshop cs4 on both mac book pro running latest version of os x (snowleopard), , windows xp sp3. in neither application can find process unlocking layers. want know dialog box located allow me unlock layer not background layer.

just make sure following you. layers locked. @ top of layers palette, above upper layer, there several attributes locking, , 1 @ far-right of set of icons padlock (lock attributes). when click on icons, locking not removed. correct? now, since 1 has ability lock individual attributes, transparency, 1 might have click on each, depending on how creator did locking. when attribute locked, icon appear depressed. clicking on should remove lock, attribute. not working in files?
