Thread: Minimal ubuntu install w/LXDE - lost Shutdown/Restart options

i'm working on getting stripped down ubuntu lucid installed on old pos hp pc friend. because has 256 mb ram, used minimal cd , installed lxde gui.

today working on , installed latest updates , openoffice-writer. after rebooting, shutdown button gives me hibernate, log out , cancel. lost shut down , restart. searching w/google shows solutions other distros such arch , mint, none worked ubuntu w/lxde. either files edit don't exist, groups don't exist (one site said add user "power" group, no such thing in 'buntu) or options don't exist (such system->administration, isn't in menu @ all).

hal , dbus running, other thing sites mentioned.

so, how shutdown , restart buttons back? people getting machine aren't going know how go terminal , type "sudo shutdown -h now" everytime want shut down.

know buttons existed before installing latest updates. suggestions?

why don't install lubuntu. works done you.

reason stuff missing because didn't install them, concept of "minimal", you decide want.
